Klingenstiernas brev till sekreteraren i Royal Society.

Reverend Sir.

I take the Liberty, Sir, of adressing to you, as the Worthy Secretary of the Royal Society, a letter from me to Mr. John Dollond, in answer to a letter from Mr. Wilson to Mr. Bergman at Upsal, written and communicated to me at Mr. Dollonds desire. And as you will find from that answer, that Mr. Dollond has endeavoured publickly in the assembly of the Royal Society to deprive me of and to vindicate to himself the Discoverys contained in a Paper presented in my name last summer, concerning the aberration of Rays of Light caused by the Spherical Surfaces of Lenses; I hope and desire, the Royal Society will do me the justice to hear what I have to say in my defense and that my answer may be read publickly before the Royal Society, before it be delivered to Mr. Dollond.

I desire likewise, that the Royal Society would order my Paper above mentioned to be examined by some impartial person of a competent skill in Mathematicks, who may give his account of it to the Honorable Company to whom I have the judgement of it with an entire resignation. — I took the liberty to present that Performance to the Royal Society, in hopes it would not be inacceptable to see the Elements of the Theory of the aberration of Rays in Spherical Lenses treated of at large, and as I hope, set in a proper Light particularly at a time, when the new Discovery of Mr. Dollond makes such a Theory much more necessary than before, and this subject not having been treated by Optical Writers with full success.
